Shuan SADREGHAZI

Shuan Sadreghazi joined the research team on Sustainable Food Systems in August 2022.
He works on sustainability transition in agricultural commodities such as Coffee and Palm Oil, with a special focus on social aspects of sustainability and adoption of sustainable farming practices among smallholder farmers.
Before joining the Center for Global Commons, he was a researcher at UNU-MERIT, the UN University research center in Maastricht, The Netherlands.
Shuan has more than 10 years of experience studying and advising inclusive business and social innovation initiatives in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. He has worked with several international organizations, such as UNDP, UNESCO, UNICEF, UNFPA. During his work on innovation for low-income communities, he conducted field studies in India, China, Myanmar, and Iran. After earning a BSc degree in in Industrial Engineering, he got an MSc in Management and Economics of Innovation from Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden) and then joined the PhD program on Innovation Studies and Development at UNU-MERIT.

Shuan’s main area of research, interest and action is innovation for sustainable/social impact. His focus is on (1) how to harness the power of innovation to address sustainability challenges more effectively and (2) how to make sure the solutions are widely adopted and diffused among the intended beneficiaries. So far, he has studied the dynamics of such innovations in the fields of nutrition, sanitation, green energy, and rural livelihoods.
