Kick-off Symposium of the AEON – University of Tokyo Satoyama Lab (1st in the series)
“The Earth’s Future Opened up by the New Satoyama Challenge: Smart Eco Island Strategy”

Overview

The University of Tokyo and the AEON Environmental Foundation established a new research unit, the AEON-University of Tokyo Satoyama Lab, with the aim of revitalizing the local economy by utilizing local natural resources, conserving biodiversity, and achieving decarbonization. The “AEON-University of Tokyo Satoyama Lab Symposium” will be held to propose a new satoyama concept, promote projects to realize a new satoyama in specific local areas, develop human resources to take charge of the projects, and disseminate the research activities both in Japan and overseas.
As the first in a series of symposia, this symposium will focus on new activities related to satoyama in remote islands and discuss global sustainability.
