Overview

The Japan-Greece Sustainable Islands Symposium is co-organised jointly by the Institute for Future Initiatives (IFI) at the University of Tokyo, the Research Laboratory on Socio-Economic and Environmental Sustainability (ReSEES) at Athens University of Economics and Business, and the Alliance of Excellence for Research and Innovation on Αephoria (AE4RIA).

The Symposium will explore commonalities and divergences in the sustainability challenges facing islands in Japan, Greece and other island countries, as well as promising solutions designed and implemented to tackle these challenges. It aims to enhance the understanding and common ground of the challenges the two countries face, while engaging the youth and suggesting solutions and best practices that can be upscaled and replicated in other areas.

The joint symposium will take place physically during 28-29 September in Athens, Greece and online for global audiences. There will be also a hybrid Climathon on Sustainable islands which will run between 28-30 September inviting teams of students and young researchers from Japan and Greece to suggest solutions on “Sustainability and ageing population” in islands of the two countries.

The final agenda will be posted in this webpage before the event.
If you wish to participate in the Climathon on Sustainable islands register your interest here.

Individuals or teams interested to participate at the Climathon are welcome to contact Dr. Alexandros Gasparatos at: gasparatos★ifi.u-tokyo.ac.jp(★→@)
