Dr. Ichiro Sakata is a Professor at the Graduate School of Engineering and at the Policy Alternatives Research Institute, The University of Tokyo. He is the project leader of ERIA Energy Research in East Asia. He is also a Visiting Professor at Kyushu University and a Consulting Fellow at the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry. He is a member of the OECD’s Expert Advisory Group (EAG) on Innovation Strategy and of the Engineering Academy of Japan, and a head of Group 1, ESRI’s Service Innovation International Research Program. His interests include technology management, technology roadmapping and innovation networks, with a focus on rapidly growing sectors, including healthcare, solar cells and batteries. Dr. Sakata was born in 1966. He received his master’s degree from Brandeis University in 1997 and a Ph.D from The University of Tokyo in 2003. He has working experience as a senior policy analyst and a policy maker at the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
