The Sustainability Research Division engages in research aimed at building a sustainable society that harmonizes human activity and natural environments using holistic, integrative approaches to address the complex, long-term issues facing the world, such as climate change and the weakening of biodiversity and ecosystem services.

This research unit performs technological assessment at the research and development stage and for emerging technology and systems being considered out of an urgent need to resolve an issue in society. -
