Digital Observatory Research Initiative was established at The University of Tokyo to observe diverse socio-economic activities around the world through data, for realizing a resilient society and economy. This Research Unit aims to drive interdisciplinary research across three divisions at the Institute for Future Initiatives, and to promote stronger collaboration with the University’s various departments.
Specific research themes include a database building for seamless regional linkage analysis by combining global input-output tables with national input-output tables and social statistics data, and analysis of the impact of climate change on global supply chains and the improvement of their resilience.
We aim to quantitatively present hotspots in global supply chains due to future climate change risks by analyzing the above-mentioned global and regional database. Supply chain pathways that reduce global environmental impacts, such as CO2 emissions, land-use change and impacts on terrestrial and marine ecosystems, will then be identified.
Based on these results, this Unit is expected to contribute to the realization of a resilient society and economy by recommending policies for the establishment of fair and sustainable global supply chains with a smaller environmental burden.
