On September 26, 2022, the 1st Korea-Japan Science and Technology Workshop (and The 2nd Science and technology seminar)was held at the University of Tokyo in Japan. The workshop is co-hosted by the Korean Association of World Politics of Information (KAWPI) and Institute for Future Initiatives (IFI), Security Studies Unit (SSU) of the University of Tokyo, inviting experts from Japan and Korea to discuss economic security, science and technology policies of Japan and Korea under the economic confrontation between the US and China.

Report: The workshop focused on technology in the first half of the session and policy in the second half. In the technology session, Japanese and Korean experts gave presentations on government policies on AI, semiconductors and telecommunications, the current situation in Japan and Korea, and appropriate rulemaking in Japan and Korea, which were followed by a Q&A session and exchange of views. In the session on policy, similar to the technical session, presentations and Q&A sessions were held on topics such as the economic and security policies of Japan and South Korea under the US-China confrontation, and technology policy. Finally, a plenary round table was held on the cooperation between the two countries in the field of science and technology policy. This was a useful opportunity to promote understanding between the parties concerned and to examine issues and possibilities for future cooperation between Japan and South Korea.
